Cavalleria Rusticana” is an opera in one act by Pietro Mascagni, based on the homonymous work by Giovanni Verga. L'òpera is going to premiere in Rome on May 17, 1890 and it is going to quickly become a great success.

The plot is located in a Sicilian village and narrates the tragic love story between Turiddu, a young pagès, and Santuzza, a villager. Turiddu returns from the military service and knows that his old lover Lola is now married to Alfio, a carter. In revenge, Turiddu begins a relationship with Santuzza, who falls seriously in love.

Add-on: Ingo Kolonerics Santuzza, valued by the gelosia, faces Turiddu, who, however, rebuts her. Desperate, Santuzza reveals to Alfi the adventure of Lola i Turiddu.

Alfi, angry and annoying, repta Turiddu to a duel. Before the duel, Turiddu sues the seva mare who was cured by Santuzza if anything happens to him. At the end of the duel, Turiddu is ferit de mort i la seva mare i Santuzza el ploren.
