Owen says “no” to war in a family that has said “yes” to it for generations without question. His decision to break the cycle of violence places him on the margins, makes him a problem, a traitor. No one wants to hear his ethics; they only want him to obey. It is the story of an individual who, in times of conflict and warmongering rhetoric, dares to stand outside the consensus. The walls of the house, laden with portraits and military glory, become an echo of a system that refuses to change. Faced with the clamor of tradition, his conscience is left alone.
