Vocal and scenic splendor in the 'Aida' of 'Opera Friday'
The Campoamor box office hung the sign “no tickets” for this only performance of Aida of the cycle Friday OperaThe occasion deserved it: Verdi's beautiful music, a balanced cast full of energy and talent, an expanded and fully functioning orchestra and choir, and the attractive stage design of Franco Zeffirelli, executed in detail under the stage direction of Vivien Hewitt, constituted a call that could not be renounced. (…)
It was also a debut night for the Majorcan tenor Joan Laínez, of late but fruitful vocation; his Radames was gaining strength after a committed «Celeste Aida», to reveal themselves vocally as victor in the last two acts, with a remarkable projection. The mezzo-soprano Laura Vila She emerged as the dramatic driving force of the performance with an excellent Amneris: her voice, with an attractive dark timbre and powerful stage presence, intensely conveyed the emotional nuances of the complex character.

Balearic Islands
Zarzuela with delicacies
So far the context, but we need to talk about the filling. Two delicacies from the land, with names and lineages, such as the Menorcan Maria Camps and the Mallorcan Joan LainezIn the two duets they sang together, Todos lo sabes, from La tabernera del puerto and Le van a escucha, from Doña Francisquita, they were warm and precise, as if they had sung them together all their lives. And we know that Laínez's life as a singer is short, for now.
But it also seemed the opposite when he did it alone, as I displayed composure, balance and confidence, a demonstration of something more than professionalism. It's called talent and work. Two characteristics that never work separately. He received the great ovation at dusk, when he performed the famous No puede ser, by Sorozábal. The best known, I would say, was the only concession to the gallery.

Zarzuela also triumphs in Mallorca
The enthusiasm for zarzuela of a large part of the music-loving public of the Balearic Islands remains unshaken; the genre continues to triumph in each of the programmes, with loyal and willing spectators. This concert deserves special attention, firstly for its successful combination of different pieces, and secondly, for its extraordinary neatness in the execution. Both soloists demonstrated an expressive stage presence that was very much in keeping with the roles they played.
The tenor Joan Laínez He is in an excellent vocal moment: powerful in his emission, passionate and daring in his interpretation, he revealed a popular Italian reminiscence in his approach to the world of zarzuela, always connected to the roots of a beautiful and intense singing.

Breaking news
The main one was a party
Zarzuela in triple part, which, as Pablo Mielgo confessed, microphone in hand, had arisen from the many requests received regarding the minor genre, our operetta, often maligned and most of them unfairly. These are things of prejudice. On the other hand, the director of the Simfònica explained that the great difference between the great opera and the zarzuela lies mainly in the plots, epic-melodramatic the first and everyday the second. Hence the great acceptance of a majority public. Having said this, a concert that had already been offered in Maó began and the following day it would be performed in the Auditori de Manacor.
The voices of Joan Lainez and María Camps starred in the recital.

Knife fight with swallows chirping
In this opera, the tenor already sings during the overture; in Amerang, he does so from a castle window, where he is lulling Lola, the wife of the carter Alfio. Santuzza, who loves Turiddu in vain, suffers visibly at the inn table. The knife fight (with a rather small knife) takes place, contrary to the libretto, on the open stage at the end: Brute force is public. But the audience is not on stage: the chorus, which symbolises the rigid society and which should really be there all the time, sings from the arcades... but with a very loud voice.

Culture in the region
"Laugh," the clown sings and cries
The first act begins in a colourful and joyful way. The actors use the picturesque arcade courtyard as a playing field, moving through the audience to the stage. Canjo, the master juggler (Joan Lainez), sings and hands out programme leaflets, Nedda (Selin Dagya-ran), the graceful Colombina, colourful balloons. Beppe (Riad Bashi) appears dressed as a harlequin, with a funny pointed hat and an exaggerated collar.

Amerang Castle Opera Festival: When Violetta sings Violetta
Storm of applause for the tenor
The second storm of applause goes to a tenor, Joan Laínez from Spain. He sings two of the most famous tenor arias, “Vesti la giubba” from Leoncavallo’s “Bajazzo” and “Nessun dorma” from Puccini’s “Turandot.” His voice leaps with ease and he attacks the high notes effortlessly, his timbre is natural and his vocal power and fullness of voice, which he distributes profusely, seem almost infinite, his “Vincero!” sounds victoriously metallic – and the audience goes wild.

The resounding voices of Javier Franco (Vidal), Luisa Fernanda (Ángela Cano), Joan Lainez (Javier) and Alicia Hervás (Carolina) impressed the audience. Music review | With my pain now alone
Joan Laínez He has made the leap to professionalism as a good tenor that he is. He combines the direction of some choral and instrumental groups with public appearances as a vocal soloist. And it must be said that, for some time now, he has been consolidating himself as a tenor with a warm and tuned voice, with very good diction, he is understood when he sings, something that is greatly helped by having been and still being among other voices as a leader and, above all, by having found a singing teacher who directs his steps.

Music Review | Voices for Cecilia
In the session, two proper names, that of the French organist Jean Pierre Lecadey (who replaced the initially planned Joan Seguí, who cancelled the event due to illness) and the Majorcan tenor Joan Laínez who is gradually increasing his resume by incorporating new works and styles into his repertoire.
Laínez is becoming a voice to be reckoned with, as he can technically and musically handle a recital with piano as well as one accompanied by a more powerful instrument such as the organ. And so it was in the concert we are discussing, as alongside one of the greats of the keyboard, Lecadey, Laínez never remained in the background, but moved at the same level of interpretation, especially in the first two interventions, two solid and profound songs by Max Reger, offered with good diction and great sense.
